MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF LDHA:
Diane O’Connor, R.D.H., B.S.D.H., President, LDHA

We are expecting YOU!  Our LDHA Annual Session Chairs, Danell Deen, RDH, and Jennifer Rogers, RDH, have been doing an outstanding job preparing for Annual Session March 12-13, 2010 at Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU in Baton Rouge.  Excellent speakers will be there, as well as sponsors eager to distribute their products to YOU.  Register now!

The LDHA Board of Trustees has been working with our lobbyist, Jane Burgin, on proposed 2010 legislation for Nitrous Oxide administration.  Suzanne Farrar, RDH, MSHCM, Jane, and I attended the LDA Board 0f Directors meeting on April 4, 2009 to present the proposal and packets regarding the proposed nitrous oxide legislation.  The LDA BOD voted to support the proposed legislation and gave LDHA a letter of support signed by DR. Charles Foy, LDA President, and Dr. Bill Hadlock, LDA Legislative Chair, which was placed in packets LDHA handed to members of the Louisiana legislature.

LDHA also received a letter of support regarding nitrous oxide administration from the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry, signed by Dr. Lynn Phillipe, LSBD President. At the April 4, 2009, LDA Board of Directors meeting, Dr. Phillipe explained if a hygienist places a nitrous oxide mask on a patient as directed by her supervising dentist; both the hygienist and the supervising dentist are in violation of current state law.

LDHA would like to thank Suzanne Farrar, RDH, MSHCM, Dr. Michael O’Brien, and Louisiana State University School of Dentistry for their diligence and dedication in the process of preparation of the approved course.

The Louisiana House of Representatives and the Senate declared May 13, 2009 as Dental Hygiene Day.  The Louisiana Dental Hygienists’ Association was recognized on the floor of the House and the Senate.

In order to keep all Louisiana Dental Hygienists (ADHA /LDHA member or potential member) updated on legislation involving our scope of practice, I am asking YOU to e-mail the President of your local component to insure they have your current and correct e-mail address.

Maintaining YOUR commitment to LDHA/ADHA is the strongest statement YOU can make in support of YOUR profession and YOUR development as a dental hygienist.  YOU will benefit from the support and encouragement of belonging to the largest association that represents the interests of dental hygienists and the patients they serve. Check out the many benefits of ADHA membership: continuing education, discounts on insurance, loupes, books, uniforms, hotels, cell phones and more.Go to adha.org and ldha.org to learn more. YOUR membership in LDHA/ADHA supports the only organization that puts YOU first!

Sincerely,

Diane O’Connor, R.D.H., B.S.D.H., President, LDHA
